They definitely come quicker as you get older. It was a nice day the sun was out, I went for a meal and then watched a film. Also the postman called with an Ebay purchase. A vintage cantilever seeing box. I have been after one if these since I saw my friends and sadly the lid had fallen off my old sewing box. I love it even its history a present from the kids.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-5y80-I9csn37qTrPF9fstueF7ck5UfLy7BDw_4I4He_kgxJKjkRXx3KIa0NscS1gOyi2U_5t85H_O0IFAU12A1UYZ14cV3500bCaM1-yful8mG5TqDSAVYhxKIJxGHG4iKs8tWnpvPQu/s1600/IMG_20150712_084337.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-5y80-I9csn37qTrPF9fstueF7ck5UfLy7BDw_4I4He_kgxJKjkRXx3KIa0NscS1gOyi2U_5t85H_O0IFAU12A1UYZ14cV3500bCaM1-yful8mG5TqDSAVYhxKIJxGHG4iKs8tWnpvPQu/s400/IMG_20150712_084337.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
So I sat in the morning sun and sorted the box out. Decided I needed a new pincushion as the one I used wouldnt fit in the box. Years ago my daughter made me a pin cushion at school it was made from a plastic milk bottle top. It had stuffed fabric on the top and a hair elastic to fit on the wrist something like these<br />
<img height="332" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/eb/65/63/eb6563d1a144df370e4c7acd8dcd0a4a.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
I found it incredibly useful it wasn't heavy on the wrist. In time the hair band stretched but also the plastic cap base wasn't quite wide enough for all the pins, sometime I would miss and catch my skin. so I thought I would make one but modify it.<br />
So I found a wide plastic bottle top, mine was from a hot chocolate container about 2 1/2" wide and went from there.<br />
The tape around the side is bias which I glued.<br />
I densly stuffed a ball shape with unwashed sheep wool (which I'd read is good for the pins) using a cotton sheeting.<br />
I then laid an old cashmere jumper over top. I wanted to use natural fibres throughout. To anchor it all down so it was compressed and so I could sew it to the tape I wound cotton around the whole thing, imagine winding a ball of wool. Then I could stitch it without any pins in, then cut away the cotton when finished.<br />
The strap was some velvet like furnishing braid which I glued to the base then covered the base and anchoring the straps with sitches. Press stud to finish<br />

I was fortunate to be given some old curtains, vintage as well. My daughters friend fell in love with some William Morris ones and somehow I offered to make a rucksack for her for when she goes to university. We drafted up some ideas. I had some leather samples, just liitle squares so she asked if I could make pockets with them one blue one green a zipped pocket on the back for security and an inner zipped pocket.</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxllQ-rGc_jHT6Bi4-jThne70yNUxTbVUwFy_QWxHV5S8bHnhGI_Ec5vlOyJZ5wkg265so1mzgfRHIEvdYYcShlHwekTZJA5Ly2Wf3lpvi7J0ZPEnHVVqwKA8GQykhCKZvayYpByewGduF/s1600/IMG_20150703_144513.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxllQ-rGc_jHT6Bi4-jThne70yNUxTbVUwFy_QWxHV5S8bHnhGI_Ec5vlOyJZ5wkg265so1mzgfRHIEvdYYcShlHwekTZJA5Ly2Wf3lpvi7J0ZPEnHVVqwKA8GQykhCKZvayYpByewGduF/s400/IMG_20150703_144513.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I must admit it came together like a breeze. It was so good not to use a pattern and let my creative juices flow. I didn't want to put it down I was engrossed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wish I get more creative with my dressmsking. You know embroidering, appliqué even patchworking pieces before cutting out. I once saw a lady who had a marvellous pea coat and each piece was a different fabric they were like curtain fabrics. It was inspiring, crazy and fun all at once.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a shoulder strap and interlined it for comfort and more support. I only needed to purchase the straps and fasteners. Everything else was available which was great.</div>

It gees me up to finish the current project. I was scouring the net looking for material and was overwelmed. Got sidetracked like I do, and got onto a blog about how we would be happier with less choices in our wardrobe. Well I may agree to differ, but if I remember right she said to take everything out of your wardrobe and route through it, and keep x amount of pieces.<br />
<br />
So the next day I took everything out, sieved through the clothes filled a charity bag then sorted the remainder into piles and observed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijvvir-7bbXXASJj3AoJLdpZaHrlQAU36GUYbEry6lzS5wjxJSNQnxwZ6scMq9b6_zFcucLOqqFSXTYcZf-eMqF5eervZWmrtvMhRsj8orGoMfU0MVEjrtVs8rdJb-UNIzGkEX_Ag29H6u/s1600/IMG_20150609_102440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijvvir-7bbXXASJj3AoJLdpZaHrlQAU36GUYbEry6lzS5wjxJSNQnxwZ6scMq9b6_zFcucLOqqFSXTYcZf-eMqF5eervZWmrtvMhRsj8orGoMfU0MVEjrtVs8rdJb-UNIzGkEX_Ag29H6u/s400/IMG_20150609_102440.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was an interesting experiment, I discovered</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A. I don't need any summer clothes. But that won't stop me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
B. I do not need any more white tops at present I have seven. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
C. I need lots of winter clothing. I'm drawn to summer clothing because of the bright colours and patterns, but winter clothing doesn't have to look dreary and dark.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
D. I do not have any casual jackets or a waterproof raincoat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I noticed I wear a lot of strong contrasts. Bright colours, no muted colours and hardly any black in my wardrobe</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaojf7Lzrtq5F_FeGjeD-vOwxlQftQo9HpAurlkakwnHKkmSX_XCMeuMhAC6q7jGnRpJCvz9ju7SgvzGdYup4SiOttHvGk_bfzy3A1WaKoq-uQ6GVyclNOR_8uuPtMNmU9HWKZLB7FCEe8/s1600/IMG_20150614_174309.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaojf7Lzrtq5F_FeGjeD-vOwxlQftQo9HpAurlkakwnHKkmSX_XCMeuMhAC6q7jGnRpJCvz9ju7SgvzGdYup4SiOttHvGk_bfzy3A1WaKoq-uQ6GVyclNOR_8uuPtMNmU9HWKZLB7FCEe8/s400/IMG_20150614_174309.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
As you can see limited space, so pieces have to work twice as hard.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7A2Ws1chu_pRM-NGDNrzAKZfIHeuVEWz3eFPAHqWrOPI1XS18QjRHxflAJzSCElT61OTitbasop84zfEfzCXz7v5C-2nJgmnVyvZtjN4QC0r3PdzEk4LRXvdgV-A_5JigsP1YFhW2Ht-_/s1600/_20150609_110547.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7A2Ws1chu_pRM-NGDNrzAKZfIHeuVEWz3eFPAHqWrOPI1XS18QjRHxflAJzSCElT61OTitbasop84zfEfzCXz7v5C-2nJgmnVyvZtjN4QC0r3PdzEk4LRXvdgV-A_5JigsP1YFhW2Ht-_/s400/_20150609_110547.JPG" width="276" /></a></div>
There sorted. So now I know what is !missing and what to sew next and what fabric to look for.<br />
A white summer skirt<br />
A waterproof coat/jacket<br />
Winter skirts or trousers.<br />
A casual jacket.<br />

When I first bought this pattern it had everything I like in a top. Low neckline and fitted bodice. I'd previously mentioned it on this blog good luck with thst one, commrnted somebody, which wasn't very promising. I knew if I conquered it I would love it but I didn't realise how much<br />

The fabric 100% linen was originally intended for a skirt but when it arrived it was too thin. I decided to attempt the top but wondered if I could do it justice.<br />
This pattern wasnt easy I made so many adjustments that Ive lost track. I made a sample first( a first for me but it paid off) I was adament I didn't want my bust not sitting in the cups like a bad fit. Looking at the pattern and having a full bust here is how I achieved it.<br />
1. I took a vertical fold out on the centre front, there was a good two inch gap between the cups on centre front, which I do not have. What I took out I added in my new cup width.<br />
2. I took the measurements for the cup from a bra that fitted me, I added width and lots of depth. I remade my cup pieces from scratch copying the notches grain etc, and following the bra shape. I reshaped the back strap to stop it gaping taking in a pleat before cutting out, and I also curved the strap shoulder seam so it sits on my tiny shoulders. As my bust is large it didnt leavevmuch room at the armhole edge seem fot my straps to sit. Thus resulting in the straps sitting on the edge of my shoulders, if you catch my drift. With numerous fittings my fabric stretched at the lower edge and trying to add the peplum which is cut on the straight proved tricky. If I want to nit pick I maybe should have taken an inch off the bodice as it is rolling over, but a narrow belt will rectify that. I didn't fit the peplum to my hips as I liked how it looks. I hope to make another but maybe take the bodice longer and omit the peplum trim. The skirt I self drafted a few summers ago.<br />

Trying to sew and hoard my equipment etc is a challenge in itself. I have sewn in nearly every corner of my home. And the conclusion is the dining/kitchen table works best.<br />
I've had numerous tables of all shapes and sizes. Basically I needed a narrow table for the galley kitchen for easy access, not too large with the ability to cut out fabric, and accommodate family gatherings when needed.<br />
My new neighbour was clearing out an outhouse. An old table had been left. "That can go I dont like that" she said.<br />
"If your throwing it out may I have it". So now I think in have my perfect table (apart from the hideous legs).<br />
Yesterday we started renovating it, sanding the top down its a nice oak finish. I think we will paint the legs. Today the rain is here so I will not be able to continue sanding.<br />

The socks I am knitting seem to be going on for ever. Only four more inches and they are finished, I call them the free socks as they are leftovers from previous makes.<br />
Dressmaking wise I have had a few waders, they rock my confidence, hopefully I can salvage the fabric. Today I am wearing a simple straight skirt self drafted using the skirt piece from a shift pattern. This is patchwork fabric and though it is light and airy, it creases terribly. I cut the front into three panels and a<span style="text-align: center;">dded pockets, which worked out well. I'm pleased with the pattern matching</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>Well she arrived and here she is. </i><i>Lets just take a pause and soak up this moment before I open the box, because I know I will never be here again owning a brand new sewing machine, a precious moment.</i></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9FK2-cTvOktVaSJGTESkRQ7SZ3YhnT9ngz89JrQlZCHxjeL5HhUaFyoQdnmLNew_fbF8MecPsB_KFkWSTEGgYK12kFIIPCxj5y_QAR9eyvDu9HuEC36DovzvaGaaprhjAFyyDFLzVtZmy/s1600/DSC_0055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9FK2-cTvOktVaSJGTESkRQ7SZ3YhnT9ngz89JrQlZCHxjeL5HhUaFyoQdnmLNew_fbF8MecPsB_KFkWSTEGgYK12kFIIPCxj5y_QAR9eyvDu9HuEC36DovzvaGaaprhjAFyyDFLzVtZmy/s1600/DSC_0055.JPG" height="276" width="400" /></a></div>
<i style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></i>
<i style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></i>
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>It is a Bernina 1008. Not unsimilar to my previous machine 1020 that I was told needed stripping back and rebuilding again (after a disastrous repair experience) I c</i></span><i style="font-size: x-large;">hose this model solely because it was the nearest to that machine which I loved, and I could use all the accessories that I already had.</i><br />
<br />
<i style="font-size: x-large;">The machine is a lower spec machine to my 1020 and when I first started testing it out, I couldn't help but compare it. There are less fancy stitches, no half speed option, no knee lifter,no tacking stitch and no auto bobbin wind. If I'm honest (without sounding ungrateful) I was a tad disappointed. I thought It would always be in the shadow of my beloved 1020.</i><br />
<i style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></i><i style="font-size: x-large;">But there is good news. When I got sewing properly with it all thoughts of the 1020 disappeared, its all about how it handles when you are sewing with it, it felt good like I hoped it would. I can control the foot pedal so it can go really slow. The fancy stitches, well I only used a few, and I'm sure I will get used to the bobbin winding. The machine sews like a dream.</i><br />
<br />
<br />
<i><span style="font-size: large;">I like heavy metal machines not plastic ones. I'm not into fancy stitches but techniques. I just want a good buttonhole and a reliable machine (touch wood) that purrs like a kitten, and if that is what you like you will love the Bernina 1008.</span></i><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>I shall call her Lucky wish is how I feel. </i></span><i style="font-size: x-large;">Now to plan some sewing.</i><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Its been a while since I posted a project here. Ive had a lot of problems with the old Bernina. Sadly after 2 trips to be repaired (the second to try and sort out the mess that the first repair-man made) I have had to accept there is just too much work to be done. The Bernina technician said "It's repairable, but it needs stripping back and rebuilding" which of course would have cost too much. So out has come the old Janome, and I'm getting used to it again. It will do the basics and I can sew again, until I can afford a new Bernina.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I picked up a remnant of vibrant orange thick wool upholstery material, with a slight boucle texture. Not a colour I usually wear, but I thought I could get away with it if I wore it away from my face.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I instantly fell in love with the energy in the colour and of course the price £2.00. There was just a metre with a flaw running down the middle hence the price. There had to be something I could make with it.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The orange is so cheerful just right for the English winters and the "January Blues" (something I don't actually suffer from, but many do). I struggled for two evenings with my patterns juggling them around, and folding the fabric in different ways. I finally worked out a way I could squeeze Vogue <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8750-products-14720.php?page_id=263" target="_blank">8750</a> making version A</span><span style="font-size: large;">.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><img alt="V8750, Misses' Skirt" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V8750.jpg" height="320" width="303" /><img alt="Line Art" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/newsletters/img.sewingtoday.com/cat/20000/add_img/V8750.gif" height="278" width="320" /><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I've made this skirt 3 times now, my first piece posted </span><a href="http://fromno23.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/vogue-8750-and-my-contest-mini-wardrobe.html?zx=577abdc164d856fc" style="font-size: x-large;" target="_blank">here.</a> <span style="font-size: large;">I wasn't happy with the result of it first time, poor fabric choice not enough weight to it. I've since made it in a thicker wool fabric and it worked well. The thicker fabric definitely shows off the style and top stitching details, I've even mastered the dreaded curves.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I really love this pattern and the finish skirt and I now find it easy to make and it somehow reminds me of 60's retro feel with the curves in it. I'm sure I shall make more.</span><br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Well sadly I didn't get the job. There were </span><span style="font-size: large;">3 other people being interviewed, it seemed to go well, but obviously not well enough! You see I have a record where every job I have had an interview for I have been fortunate to be offered the job. Now that bubble has burst. I have to say I was gutted. A for my record being broken and B for not securing the job. I would have enjoyed it, but it wasn't to be. Never mind Onward and Upward. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This weekend it has been so wet here. But I decided to pop into town and do a bit of shopping. I managed to come home with a fat quarter of fabric and pondered what to do with it. So today I made this</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ-FwOyddKuVuD3V_sdX0zSowznHefxxBKRhkOxhmp-LB4AVSM3Pg5EbW1xIB8sJ3JXXS2qaAv1gMQXEmDk2FoxNf0yjgFgc6h3gkrxWNngMpdizF1syH-hsDQusoKbtTLolXe4orgaOyJ/s1600/085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ-FwOyddKuVuD3V_sdX0zSowznHefxxBKRhkOxhmp-LB4AVSM3Pg5EbW1xIB8sJ3JXXS2qaAv1gMQXEmDk2FoxNf0yjgFgc6h3gkrxWNngMpdizF1syH-hsDQusoKbtTLolXe4orgaOyJ/s1600/085.JPG" height="425" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A project bag to store my knitting. Its ideal as I tend to knit small objects, i.e. socks, gloves, hats, which I carry around with me in my bag.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizPANnKWmXXyQTaCohSN8U1PgF14izJnKq7Rig4Nw7KiqjrtBwMPSMOkoAIJ-DM_Wm-2-wIja7Cez9dLkVG7grqHkl8w8EFjf8IMjciA4f3d0sy0kvO8nwKHtgLuN8hxro6ljrU7-blMHu/s1600/084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizPANnKWmXXyQTaCohSN8U1PgF14izJnKq7Rig4Nw7KiqjrtBwMPSMOkoAIJ-DM_Wm-2-wIja7Cez9dLkVG7grqHkl8w8EFjf8IMjciA4f3d0sy0kvO8nwKHtgLuN8hxro6ljrU7-blMHu/s1600/084.JPG" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I simply lined it with some available fabric. I didnt put anything in between the two layers, as I wanted to keep it light and soft.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I am a big fan of circular and sets of 4 knitting, in fact it could be responsible for re kindling my love of knitting. I love the Knit Pro range (I may have told you this before) So with the remainder of the fabric I was able to make an organiser to store all my new needles</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;">Ive so enjoyed knitting and crocheting with the cold nights these last few months</span><span style="font-size: large;">. Thankfully the nights are slowly getting lighter, I love to observe how light its becoming on a daily basis, and how later in the day I am closing the curtains on an evening. <span style="font-size: large;">lighter and warmer days.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I have to confess I havent been inspired to dressmake, I keep looking at the patterns but nothing has excited me, until I spotted this dress pattern in Vogues Spring collection <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1381-products-47937.php?page_id=315" target="_blank">Vogue 1381</a>. Im smitten, so in love with it. I cannot wait for them to stock it in the UK so I can get my discount from my magazine sub</span><span style="font-size: large;">sciption. Talking of which, just take a look at what is on the front of my magazine which was delivered this Saturday </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"> Yesterday I went to the hairdressers and had a haircut, my hair has been in such a mess its also been falling out in handfuls, which has been worrying and also embarrassing, leaving a trail behind me. It got so bad the children threatened</span><span style="font-size: large;"> to buy me a hairnet. Ive been told it was the stress from when I was rushed into hospital, anyway its settled down now and hopefully it will grow back. As a result my haircut looks completely different a lot wispier. Thankfully I had a good mop of hair to begin with and it should grow back. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ4xjIEjKOcD6ll_FniddhdYYMZAIxa9FYC0jcueDhy2XhicB_guzfzonxe1MvXtKaHqmZ5G3sR2j5mvLcak3hkjLwVpaYPk3-waUol-16W46aoqODBiHCAWN-n_gr2MKyEd6ybEJ7dRV1/s1600/DSC_0084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="font-size: x-large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ4xjIEjKOcD6ll_FniddhdYYMZAIxa9FYC0jcueDhy2XhicB_guzfzonxe1MvXtKaHqmZ5G3sR2j5mvLcak3hkjLwVpaYPk3-waUol-16W46aoqODBiHCAWN-n_gr2MKyEd6ybEJ7dRV1/s320/DSC_0084.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Apart from needing a good trim the other reason I needed a haircut is because I am going to a job interview on Tuesday. Before Christmas I applied for an admin job, the position was inundated with applications, so they asked 8 people to come and do a word/excel test, I was asked to come and do one. I was so nervous as I havent used Excel since 2000 when I did a short course, so I tried to brush up on You tube. I arrived early for my interview, the interviewees were late back from lunch. Then the computer wouldnt work. It was a diddy laptop with windows xp. I had half an hour for my test, yet I could have done with half an hour just to familiarise myself with the computer. They kindly gave me an extra 5 minutes because of the slow start. In the middle of my test the next applicant arrived, which I found very off putting. I came away convinced I had made a complete mess of it all, thinking I should have done it all differently. As I didnt hear from them I assumed I hadnt got an interview. But a few days later than anticipated I received an email asking me to attend a panel interview, so I must have done something right, not sure what though. Now what do I wear for an interview?</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">What a productive couple of days I have had. Its amazing what affect a New Year can have on my spirits. I have finally finished the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hitchhiker" target="_blank">hitchhiker</a> scarf. I realised looking at my blog that I started it on 1st December, so I set myself a challenge to finish it before the end of the year, which I did. Its very warm and I like it, though you wouldnt think it looking at the serious expression on my face!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Ive also started crocheting a blanket. I took advantage of the Drops Alpaca sale with 25% off, and topped up my stash of alpaca.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Love this wool, Love the colours, yummy. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Im doing this <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/flowers-in-the-snow" target="_blank">pattern</a> and these are my colours. A bright centre, light middle section, just using one colour (wasnt sure how that would work) and the blue/grey outer. Its a nice pattern, but I am finding it awkward joining the pieces as you go, its handling the weight of the blanket as I work it pulls on my crochet hook.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Ive started already, thought I would make up a small group to see if the colours worked etc. Im happy with it, but its going to be along time in the making. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> Ive worked out to make a blanket the size I want, I will need 11 more of these blocks of 24 squares, equalling 288 squares. 1 block like the above a month to finish in time for next Christmas, thats quite a commitment, hope I can achieve it. Ive been doing my sums to find out if Ive enough wool, as I wast using the same ply wool as the pattern. Its so complicated working out the amount, there must be easy way. Its the main blue that I am most bothered about, I need to have all the same dyelots. Ive weighed what Ivd used and I think I will need another 2 balls.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">On the sewing front Ive shortened a pair of trousers, for a friend, that had been sitting around since before Christmas. One of those projects the longer you leave it the more you dont want to do it. I also altered the 2 garments I wasnt happy with from my 2013 makes (pictures to follow) So yes a good start to 2014. Now I need a portable knitting project to carry around in my handbag something simple and small. I must pop over to Ravelry. </span></div>

<span style="color: #444444; font-size: x-large;">Well I hope you have all had a good Christmas, and now we are fast approaching the New Year. When I look back over the year at my blog , Ive had some creative hits and misses. its interesting to see what has become part of my everyday wardrobe and whats got buried to the bottom of my drawers. So here is recap at what has worked and what didnt for 2013</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-size: x-large;">FIRST - THE MISSES</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #444444; font-size: x-large;"><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" />MARCH I wear this dress on hot days, when Im pottering around, not for anywhere special. Its so cool being 100% cotton. I wouldn't make this pattern again though, the little cardi has hardly been worn also.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #444444; font-size: x-large;">Its funny, I love white especially in the summer and when I started making this top I was convinced I would get loads of wear from it, but I have only worn this blouse once. Its not that I dont like its just the cotton is quite firm, (it was a sheet I used) its hard to wear anything over it. I think the answer is to shorten the sleeves, to make it more wearable.</span></td></tr>

<span style="font-size: x-large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXw5o8zG4yLsG9XX4CTxaNJo0onqCFLGhhaMLHEJ_oPKDQPoR6riwvIi6z7F14u1NCiNyerVrQe6MVoWDljXJH8Abuekd44DhcW8ESJKtkU4I7JSSJFR4sV_zWF4ZCRki_GPxVZIrAyg3l/s1600/DSC_0015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXw5o8zG4yLsG9XX4CTxaNJo0onqCFLGhhaMLHEJ_oPKDQPoR6riwvIi6z7F14u1NCiNyerVrQe6MVoWDljXJH8Abuekd44DhcW8ESJKtkU4I7JSSJFR4sV_zWF4ZCRki_GPxVZIrAyg3l/s640/DSC_0015.JPG" width="500" /></a></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Now I couldnt have achieved these photos with my old camera, Milly is a fast mover.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">The fire was lit and DH and myself made homemade bread. For a change my mixture was spot on, the bread was soft and fluffy, however DHs mixture didnt turn out as good. Normally he makes excellent bread. I ordered some presents on the internet, and a did abit of knitting.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">The Christmas bed socks for DD are completed. Oh how I wish there was a way you could all touch these lovely socks, they truly are incredibly soft and fuzzy. T</span><span style="font-size: x-large;">he wool was bought in a local charity shop, vintage Jaegar Angora Spun.</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhkotCFHgfo31UPNTvo2m2K49TlKAnnEgTSG1_3fHtjviAn9-Dn1zVZ7T1h9XYRjQf_R5FVtA14xPXKfw4EabqtJCfZtAVuWtPx4u3L8e8YKVVNgYmeluyK6Qc0K-tnEOaCsx3pzvgaEe/s1600/DSC_0012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhkotCFHgfo31UPNTvo2m2K49TlKAnnEgTSG1_3fHtjviAn9-Dn1zVZ7T1h9XYRjQf_R5FVtA14xPXKfw4EabqtJCfZtAVuWtPx4u3L8e8YKVVNgYmeluyK6Qc0K-tnEOaCsx3pzvgaEe/s640/DSC_0012.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">The pattern which is on </span><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pinky-2" style="font-size: xx-large;" target="_blank">Ravelry</a><span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">had a lacy panel but I couldnt see it because of the pile, so I left them plain. I didnt find this pattern easy to follow, too little information, I do like it when a pattern states how many stitches you should have left after decreasing, just minor points like that, that were omitted.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">So onto the scarf. After knitting such soft wool this sock wool feels like rope, I assure you it isnt. It is a great little pattern easy to knit. Im so enjoying knitting this scarf, its so different, and the colours in the wool are not disappointing me. Ive completed 15 points, the pattern says I should be able to make 40 with my 100gms. I had to go onto 3.25mm needles as my tension was too tight, it will be interesting to see how many I get from my ball.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: x-large;">This ball of wool, is calling me. Its saying "Knit me, Knit me," but I must resist as I still havent quite finished my second sock yet.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Its my own fault, I blame myself entirely I have been drooling over my wool stash, looking over patterns and now I have made a decision I cant wait to start. So let me tell you more. I shall be using this lovely sock wool. Such lovely soft colours. Its Opal Vincent van Gogh "The Trinquetaille Bridge" sock wool. A range of yarns based on Van Gogh's paintings</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> <img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61NeK1%2BbXEL._SX425_.jpg" height="515" width="640" /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">I am going to knit a scarf with it. The pattern is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hitchhiker" target="_blank">hitchhiker</a> on Ravelry. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/5193922899_46f60dd83c_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><img border="0" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/5193922899_46f60dd83c_z.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">It sounds so intriguing and fun. You start with just 2 stitches and you keep increasing to a certain point then stop when you run out of wool or when you have had enough. How good is that, no panic of running out of wool (unless its not as long as you would have liked) The result being either a cowl or long scarf. I have a 100gm ball so we shall see how far we get with it, this should be interesting. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Do you get excited at the prospect of starting a new project be it a pattern or a piece of fabric just waiting to be cut into. Part of the reason I am always thinking ahead with projects, especially knitting is to spur me onto finishing whats on the needles, Im a slow knitter, sewing is so much quicker. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">I only have one knitting project on the go at a time, it would be fatal starting something new. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">I wasnt always like this. </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">When I first started dressmaking in my teens I remember having lots of bags of unfinished pieces, probably when I had either gone wrong or couldnt understand the pattern. They used to be stashed away behind my Mums sofa. She did complain about them. Of course back then in the 70s there was no internet for research, tutorials so I just trundled along.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">So readers do you knit or sew one piece at a time? Are you forever planning the next project, or</span><span style="font-size: x-large;"> do you have lots of projects on the go at once, and if so do they get finished? </span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">The other day something short of a little miracle happened. I baked a perfect bun. Now I can make fat-less sponge cakes, muffins but not a Victoria Sponge mixture they always come out flat or peaky. So much so I have given up trying. But the other day I tried once more using a recipe my friends mother uses, her cakes are wonderful so it was worth the try. Recipe - Weigh the eggs, whatever they weigh use the same of margarine, flour and sugar (I put in a little less sugar.) So I tried it and it worked. Boy am I proud. Soft fluffy cakes, Yummy </span><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3VLw7NNy27cdhENfqBtSYDgk3jf4HcFWdINy0i0mGfd3Ifi9pR2oTlFsbAYQxaFNyNa59sW-083m35RbpKUXMOmjXAN-N81a-mIGAxaLiVyDP5Op7imFlmShmKvvn6jHmnTNx-zLi46bo/s1600/DSC_0004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3VLw7NNy27cdhENfqBtSYDgk3jf4HcFWdINy0i0mGfd3Ifi9pR2oTlFsbAYQxaFNyNa59sW-083m35RbpKUXMOmjXAN-N81a-mIGAxaLiVyDP5Op7imFlmShmKvvn6jHmnTNx-zLi46bo/s640/DSC_0004.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Sadly my sewing mojo has disappeared just like the buns, and the needles are clicking away as I sit by the fire keeping warm. Our house is over 150 years old its cold and drafty. No doubt after Christmas with thoughts of Spring I will return to the sewing table, hopefully sooner.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgshhaqxTrHXNE3IfbnZd9pxYDHrnrv5cCVckVIiPk2JdO_-5VI4aU4BqbYoi-k19m8DlZKU8h_zHsT1M7zQqbRFAYyjqU_FVqm3osvNwlHGv9cCage0OAM7RAFA1NYWOt7_N6uarv-u3Qo/s1600/DSC_0006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="427" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgshhaqxTrHXNE3IfbnZd9pxYDHrnrv5cCVckVIiPk2JdO_-5VI4aU4BqbYoi-k19m8DlZKU8h_zHsT1M7zQqbRFAYyjqU_FVqm3osvNwlHGv9cCage0OAM7RAFA1NYWOt7_N6uarv-u3Qo/s640/DSC_0006.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">So I have finished one bed sock for dd, hopefully a Christmas present. The sock had a pattern but it wasnt visible due to the fuzziness of the wool, so I knitted in stocking stitch instead. I am struggling with the second piece. This always occurs once I have completed one, which is why I love knitting 2 at once but I chose to knit these on sets of fours for a change. Tomorrow I have a follow up hospital appointment to find out why I was admitted to hospital in the Summer (hopefully they will have answers) Its a long journey, probably long waits so I will take the knitting and hope I can make an impression on the sock. I seem to be spending too much time browsing ravelry</span><span style="font-size: x-large;"> for patterns and looking at my over flowing stash of wool, Im so longing to start something new and exciting. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Lastly, a fresh tablecloth and some dried flowers are making me smile at the moment. Given to me by one of our Mustard Seed customers. I only know this as Honesty. These paper thin white leaves catch the light from the french doors giving them a lovely silver glow. Very pretty.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Monday I did my usual stint at Mustard Seeds, we were quieter this week but of course everyone came in all at once and it was chaos. This little coffee shop continues to flourish and bring so much joy to these pensioners in our village.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: x-large;">Afterwards I walked home instead of my usual lift home, I had the camera with me as I wanted to take a photo of our new tablecloths and menu sheets, looking all new and fresh. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: x-large;">As I passed the mere I spotted "the bird lady" feeding the birds .</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">This lady calls every day to feed the birds. They were all enjoying their food when all of a sudden the geese looked across the water...</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>

<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Blogging so inspires me. After reading a post earlier in the day it prompted me to get a couple of books of my shelf and familirise its contents. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">These books are wonderful I love them a great insight into sewing in the 1940's when times were hard, money and supplies sparse and rationed but imagination was unlimited. I just had to share them with you.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGe_pnjZDAjGmBcat93Al9hMt4q8SZIJZlQ9YpHLAYAhEYora3iPHG6n7WPe4KwGfHUNuBdTG-7Cg-D-Y-oUVQurDfhJzH8SL1g93SWOJBRS61rdgA1YwcVPI1QB0SrK7EsS-dGDXLFXzt/s1600/DSC_0009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGe_pnjZDAjGmBcat93Al9hMt4q8SZIJZlQ9YpHLAYAhEYora3iPHG6n7WPe4KwGfHUNuBdTG-7Cg-D-Y-oUVQurDfhJzH8SL1g93SWOJBRS61rdgA1YwcVPI1QB0SrK7EsS-dGDXLFXzt/s640/DSC_0009.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> Isnt the inner cover a lovely design, ingeneous. </span><span style="font-size: large;">Once inside the books there are endless patterns and ideas. Articles on darning and repairing. Getting wear out of wool jackets by unpicking the whole outfit and turning in inside out for more wear, have you ever heard of anything so bizzare, and even 1940's</span><br />

I struggle with fashion in the winter months, unless I am heading out for the day it is so easy just to throw on a pair of jeans, thick socks and a lovely warm jumper. Its not very exciting on a daily basis but practical. </span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">It all comes down to me being lazy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">In fairness, trousers are definitely warmer than skirts when the weathers at its worst, so I must try and and get to grips with making them, can anyone recommend a good trouser pattern for a curvy figure. But somehow I am always drawn to dresses. So my November garment a month challenge of the month is to use my vintage wool crepe in my stash and sew a dress. Its a bottle green colour.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Pattern choice </span><span style="font-size: large;"> Vogue 8667 I like the oatmeal version with the collar, </span><span style="font-size: large;">I would like to make a matching buckled belt (not done one of those before)</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Some thick wool tights, boots a nice cardi and Im sorted. Just need to make it and pray it doesnt get so cold that I grab the jeans. </span><br />

Of course<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This is my </span><span style="font-size: x-large;">100th</span><span style="font-size: large;"> post. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">In all honesty I am surprised I got this far. At times I wondered if I was writing to myself, and sometimes I thought of giving up, especially when I had writers block. So lets celebrate with chocolate........</span><br />
<a href="http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article194456.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/CA778C3D-A93F-FF69-53359EB8196CE624-194456.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article194456.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/CA778C3D-A93F-FF69-53359EB8196CE624-194456.jpg" width="400" /></a><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">and one of my favourites. It so reminds me of Christmas Selection boxes and Easter Eggs.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Yummy!!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The top I made for my "garment a month challenge" is the exact colour of the foil paper on a Cadbury's chocolate bar and its shiny too!! </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbiOZVxuR_izXAmAnBrsxB9ecbyjkIUl_zLOr1g18PT3LqT59kdaf_hSeZgUHA2RjK_4-eR9R6JNQg-8CqLYSedcheFhuXScw6qaAHMlwWExREPuVsymrNy09XFzvuPU9Frn4fCyKzDbV1/s1600/DSC_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbiOZVxuR_izXAmAnBrsxB9ecbyjkIUl_zLOr1g18PT3LqT59kdaf_hSeZgUHA2RjK_4-eR9R6JNQg-8CqLYSedcheFhuXScw6qaAHMlwWExREPuVsymrNy09XFzvuPU9Frn4fCyKzDbV1/s400/DSC_0045.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This is made from a piece of fabric that was left over sitting in my stash. I didnt originally choose this fabric. My daughters choice when I made her a dress a few years ago, but it is a beautiful clear purple and polka dots are always a hit with me. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The pattern is <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b5890-products-44967.php?page_id=366" target="_blank">Butterick 5890</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I had just enough to make the shorter version minus the collar. (c) I also omitted the front seam (why have a seam down the front, to me unsightly).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Do I like it? Yes I do. Though I dont shy away from colour its very shiny, which I am not used to. I think I just need to get used to it. I would have preferred the longer version which suits me better but there wasnt enough fabric This top will give a good splash of colour under a cardigan for autumn/spring. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The pattern says use a 22" zip. I just dont see why you need such a long zip on this pattern. I can easily get this top on and off without undoing the zip. Even the previous <a href="http://fromno23.blogspot.co.uk/search?updated-max=2013-09-10T14:32:00%2B01:00" target="_blank">version</a> I made which was more fitted I can manage with a zip half that length. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivjB4CtQMRviTq3zAaVV0srV_-cfNI0udFoe2cUXFZ0_hOQ3TpWYXIYzWyBkFS4Exdo_AwlkXpMm2Qw9agrs6-b27FqUUK8JOAGYTfH9CPE1xcJArZBoYBu7ZVzeqeviaGpWbJcCczol1U/s1600/DSC_0041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivjB4CtQMRviTq3zAaVV0srV_-cfNI0udFoe2cUXFZ0_hOQ3TpWYXIYzWyBkFS4Exdo_AwlkXpMm2Qw9agrs6-b27FqUUK8JOAGYTfH9CPE1xcJArZBoYBu7ZVzeqeviaGpWbJcCczol1U/s400/DSC_0041.JPG" width="266" /></a><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">There is plenty of room in it but it is rising up at the front which gives me the impression it needs to be bigger in the bust. No doubt I will make this again and will correct that next time. </span><span style="font-size: large;">I also made the neckline a little bit deeper as I dont like high round necks on me.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> Overall I am happy with it and it will be a good addition to my pinks and greys that I wear a lot of.</span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMAHenGsVaqFmsX_9E_qmSszQwCY7FTt0cLthyb2HoQ-SnoCnop4jBnhKmSH4741hhxq-_VspnzhkzyDVewjeZ5Ua9oMt5Ot9GRPPgMfDI9TF6e_0_AnZr4SYMll12W-BGNcUTk8pElSan/s1600/DSC_0046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="524" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMAHenGsVaqFmsX_9E_qmSszQwCY7FTt0cLthyb2HoQ-SnoCnop4jBnhKmSH4741hhxq-_VspnzhkzyDVewjeZ5Ua9oMt5Ot9GRPPgMfDI9TF6e_0_AnZr4SYMll12W-BGNcUTk8pElSan/s640/DSC_0046.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A while back I mentioned I was thinking of upgrading my camera. Well I am so pleased to tell you that we have finally got a dlsr. I have been eyeing these up for sometime. Its a Nikon D3100, its a beginner dlsr, I should be able to manage that. I love it, the pics are so much clearer.</span><span style="font-size: large;"> I need to get a tripod and case ordered for it. So excited :-)</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">We went to visit the in laws this week and took them to Lincoln. Of course I was clicking away like a tourist, considering it was late October when these pictures were taken the weather was incredibly warm, we didnt even wear coats.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I also mentioned that I wanted to finish dh socks , and yes (hooray!) they are complete. They were ribbed throughout so they were very time consuming. At hubbies request he wanted them as long as possible, these socks go on forever.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsNSxvpS547iTduuznhWLWrQUIxbbV00AXbGhpfeuxZ3KulOFOnMB_m7Y15-rzudnT5PVd8ObcNYH4Ymg8u1KJAs5B_CfRwbbR4PrrxbBbwt8NQtdsABRssy43mZmRytK1szQ87ttrIM_z/s1600/DSC_0036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsNSxvpS547iTduuznhWLWrQUIxbbV00AXbGhpfeuxZ3KulOFOnMB_m7Y15-rzudnT5PVd8ObcNYH4Ymg8u1KJAs5B_CfRwbbR4PrrxbBbwt8NQtdsABRssy43mZmRytK1szQ87ttrIM_z/s640/DSC_0036.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Left:</span><span style="font-size: large;"> blue ribbed socks Right: daughters socks, made earlier in the year. Both made from drops fabel sock wool,</span><span style="font-size: large;"> just different patterns in their wool. </span><span style="font-size: large;">I love their wool and have never been disappointed with the quality, and such a good price, especially when they have offers on. Do check them out. Christmas pressies, </span><span style="font-size: large;"> Dont they look lovely</span><span style="font-size: large;">.</span><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">With the days getting colder and shorter, I find I struggle to dressmake on a regular basis. I am more likely to be sat curled up by the wood burner knitting. I will still try to complete my challenge a month project. In the stash is some vintage green wool crepe which will make a nice warm dress. Just need to choose a pattern. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">On the knitting needles at the moment is some vintage Jaeger angora Spun. £2.00 from a charity shop. A pair of bed socks for my daughter, who feels the cold all year round. A lovely royal blue, this wool is so incredibly soft and fuzzy. I am so going to enjoy knitting this wool, I may not want to part with them.</span><br />

It was one of those weekends that never really got going dark and cold. So over the weekend I sewed, and I catalogued my patterns online with Evernote. I can take no credit for this idea as I got it from <a href="http://blog.lulalouise.com/2013/01/create-sewing-pattern-catalog-evernote.html" target="_blank">lululouise</a>'s blog. It will enable me to see what I have if I spot a piece of fabric on my travels and hopefully match it up. Of course I have only catalogued the illustrations so it will be guess work on the amount of fabric I require. Has anyone else done this or am I being too organised! </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now how good are you at colour matching? My friend says that I have a good eye for colour. Very useful when dressmaking, matching fabrics, threads etc or general clothes shopping. My friend however has no colour sense at all. She often asks me "does this go with this". When sewing I find this very beneficial. I can go into town without a piece of fabric and bring back the right colour reel of cotton. Now, while surfing the net the other day I came across a <a href="http://www.xrite.com/online-color-test-challenge" target="_blank">colour test</a> what fun I thought. So I gave it a go. My score was 8 not bad. Give it a go but beware, it can send you loopy. </span><span style="font-size: large;"> Let me know how you get on.</span><br />

Yes I think I should be able to manage that one. However I must make thermal curtains, so while I decide on curtain fabric choice I think I will start my challenge. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I am still needing to de stash, get these fabrics used up and have a fresh start with different fabrics but I feel like a mouse on a wheel when it comes to de-stashing. As soon as I sew some of it up I will find a piece of fabric on my travels. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So for my October Make a Garment a Month challenge I will be making Butterick 5890.</span><img alt="B5890" src="http://butterick.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/B5890.jpg" /><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I know I have just made this top, but I have just enough of some Rose and Hubble purple/white polka dot fabric left over from a dress I made for my daughter to make this top. It will go nicely with the 2 skirts I have just made, increasing my mini wardrobe. The style option is dependant on how far the fabric goes.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So what else for October, I really need to finish my coat that must have been sitting in the wardrobe for about 3 years now, all the hard work is done, so why I havent finished it I just dont know. The socks I am knitting for my husband, I am on the home straight with them now which I am so pleased about, I feel like Ive been knitting them for an eternity. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So thats it for October. W</span><span style="font-size: large;">hat are you all sewing/knitting this month? </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">It all started when I came across this bag on Yoshimi's </span><a href="http://blog/" style="font-size: x-large;" target="_blank">blog</a><span style="font-size: large;">. I like bucket bags but I do so hate the way everything collects up at the bottom of the bag. Yoshimi had cleverly made dividers in hers which was a brilliant idea. While sorting out and putting away summer clothing I came across an old pair of jeans, so I thought I would recycle them and make Yoshimi's hatoto bag. I have to say I like it, just the right size for me, the straps are not too long and dont fall off my tiny shoulders, I think I would put a fastener on next time.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjulcP1D-UKVTO8qHhzt9F0ILqri6hEAjn34epujbOR4UUzK7e66k3y4II8rSMT0V05RES6Ga3_3XZvrewBHWuU_PRaLr-wNWaWEigsPpuhcqeZ6QnhuOnD0HWMzPNQhhM15MC9eLXk4nIZ/s1600/100_0006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjulcP1D-UKVTO8qHhzt9F0ILqri6hEAjn34epujbOR4UUzK7e66k3y4II8rSMT0V05RES6Ga3_3XZvrewBHWuU_PRaLr-wNWaWEigsPpuhcqeZ6QnhuOnD0HWMzPNQhhM15MC9eLXk4nIZ/s400/100_0006.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b>lays flat</b> for storage.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I like bags, but I havent the space to store lots of different bags to coordinate with my wardrobe, also I am lazy and cannot be bothered to take everything out and of one bag into the other, resulting in me usually using one or two bags through the seasons. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Which brings me onto my next idea....</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">What if I made a variety of these bags, some in linens, ultrasuede, cottons for the summer & leatherette and waterproof fabrics for the winter. Of course I could customise them so they are not all the same. They could all store flat for easy storage (very important for me) and I make a removable liner that fits inside</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Why?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Because (a) I just have to lift all the contents out in one go and</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">(b) It makes storing my other bags easier as they wont be as bulky.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So I set about creating one.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">So here is my entry picture.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYvs-_A1AQP2YjtAoAsJs_ZjuEUdjAMM4RYbWx-iLgTRHMdqPFISlhHMWc9xGDdeSxadKytKUszbzD65ASjjIugr2GE2K95sPgkgO81WifdocfR-Ync1W-8DKzSUKMh60ujunO_1GRCCxU/s1600/Unnamed+Sun+Sep+29+2013.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYvs-_A1AQP2YjtAoAsJs_ZjuEUdjAMM4RYbWx-iLgTRHMdqPFISlhHMWc9xGDdeSxadKytKUszbzD65ASjjIugr2GE2K95sPgkgO81WifdocfR-Ync1W-8DKzSUKMh60ujunO_1GRCCxU/s640/Unnamed+Sun+Sep+29+2013.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> My little grey skirt my final piece, which I havent really had chance to post about is included.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I like this skirt, despite sewing the curves and constant unpicking. It proved to be the most difficult piece to do out of all the 4 due to the fabric. The colour goes wonderfully with the top and it has a silver metallic finish, it reacted terribly to heat resulting in me having to press with a warm iron and a very damp cloth. The fabric was a bane it shrivelled, puckered and I am now unpicking my triple top stitching in an effort to make the skirt look less puckered. Its too late in the day to redo the photos. But I will continue with my unpicking. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">In honesty looking at the pics some outfits work more than others. The shirt, though the fabric is soft it is somehow rigid which effects its overall appearance, for a start it makes me look bigger than I am. The whole process was stash busting and using existing patterns, but I had to make a few purchases in the end. Yes I am my own worst critic with my handiwork, there is always improvement. But I have so enjoyed this contest its been fun and made me think more about what I was making and how it works with other items, instead of just matching available fabric to a pattern, its also been a great motivator for me.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large; text-align: start;">This is my third piece of the mini wardrobe competition finished. Its a shirt, and I haven't done collars for a very long time , so it was a challenge. I really like this blouse, especially the yoke. Originally I was going to add a pleated yoke, but my friend thought it may be too rigid, Im so glad I took her advice as the fabric is quite thick, its a cotton sheet that was in my stash originally purchased to back a quilt. I still wanted to have a go at cutting into my front shirt piece and recreating something different</span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large; text-align: start;">I had an old top with inserts that had seen its day, so I carefully unpicked them and worked out how I could use these short pieces on the yoke. The effort paid off and I like the result. </span></td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> The only thing I dislike are the cuffs they are very long and loose (and I have thick wrists) It makes the shirt feel big , in fact I have turned them back on the second picture. I shall have to review that next time I make one. I even managed to find some vintage buttons with square inserts to match the ladder effect in the yoke. Overall I think I have made a nice, crisp classic shirt.</span><br />
